Workplace wellbeing isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a critical factor in your business’s success.
With mental health-related issues costing UK businesses billions annually, and happier employees proven to be up to 20% more productive, the stakes have never been higher. If your organisation isn’t investing in employee wellbeing, you risk falling behind.
For businesses in Worcestershire, the Work Well, Live Better programme is the solution to driving real, measurable change in mental health and wellbeing.
Launched in December 2023 and delivered by Optima UK, Work Well, Live Better is a revolutionary programme funded by Worcestershire County Council.
It provides businesses with practical tools, expert insights, and a supportive network to improve workplace mental health and wellbeing. Since its inception, 185 members across 144 businesses have joined this transformative network – and the impact speaks for itself.
In December 2024, the Live Well Work Better Bi-Annual Showcase brought over 100 attendees together at the University Worcester Arena for an inspiring day of learning and collaboration.
Here’s what attendees experienced:

Mary discovered the Work Well, Live Better programme on Eventbrite and signed up in September 2024. At the showcase, she found Poal’s story of resilience deeply moving and Jamie Clements’ breathwork techniques highly practical. Mary plans to incorporate these techniques into her team’s daily routine and share them with her family to manage stress effectively. She also left inspired to start a workplace wellbeing initiative in her organisation.
“This event reminded me that everyone has something going on. I left with tools I can use in my life and share with others.”
As a newly appointed mental health lead, Natalie came across the programme while researching resources for her new role. She found the showcase invaluable, particularly the sessions on creating high-performing cultures and fostering open dialogue. Natalie has already begun discussions with senior leaders to implement these strategies and is also rolling out practical tips on nutrition and sleep shared during the event to improve staff wellbeing.
“The sessions on culture and leadership were exactly what I needed. Mental health affects us all, and we all have a part to play in creating a supportive environment.”
Ash, a former member of the Armed Forces, was introduced to the programme through a potential partnership with his charity. He attended the showcase eager to learn new strategies for improving team dynamics. The sessions on open communication and breathwork resonated with his military background and inspired him to implement regular stress management workshops in his charity. Ash is now actively building a toolkit of resources to improve team cohesion and focus.
“The insight on building high-performing teams and fostering open communication was invaluable. I’m excited to implement these tools.”
