Our Commitment

Optima UK Inc Limited is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared in accordance with Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 006 and the associated reporting standard. It sets out our baseline emissions, current carbon footprint and the practical measures we are taking to reduce our environmental impact across our operations.

Baseline Emissions

Our baseline emissions provide the reference point against which future carbon reductions will be measured.

Baseline Year: 2024

This is Optima UK’s first formal Carbon Reduction Plan and establishes our organisational emissions baseline.

The baseline reflects our operating model as an SME recruitment, training and consultancy provider employing up to 50 people. Approximately 50% of our training delivery is undertaken face-to-face within community venues and employer premises, with the remaining 50% delivered remotely.

Business travel represents our most significant source of emissions due to staff travelling between delivery locations using their own vehicles. Emissions are calculated using organisational data for electricity consumption, business mileage, commuting assumptions, waste and other relevant operational activities, applying the latest UK Government greenhouse gas conversion factors.

This represents a reduction of 6.0 tCO₂e (6.5%) compared with our 2024 baseline.

Carbon Reduction Targets

To support our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050, Optima UK has established a programme of continuous environmental improvement.

Our target is to reduce total emissions to 46.0 tCO₂e by 2030, representing a 50% reduction against our 2024 baseline.

Progress will be reviewed annually and our Carbon Reduction Plan updated to reflect our latest emissions data and ongoing improvement initiatives.

Carbon Reduction Initiatives

Since establishing our 2024 baseline, Optima UK has implemented a range of practical measures to reduce our environmental impact, including:

  • Increasing the use of remote internal meetings and online planning to reduce unnecessary staff travel.
  • Continuing to deliver approximately 50% of our training programmes remotely where appropriate.
  • Expanding the use of digital learning materials, electronic learner records and e-signatures to reduce paper consumption.
  • Improving journey planning and diary coordination to minimise unnecessary business mileage.
  • Delivering services through local community venues and employer premises to reduce learner travel distances and support place-based delivery.
  • Reducing printing, paper usage and other consumables across the organisation.

The environmental benefits of these initiatives will continue to be measured through our annual carbon reporting process.

Future Initiatives

As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we plan to implement additional measures including:

  • Introducing a formal Sustainable Travel Policy covering route planning, car sharing and lower-emission travel choices.
  • Encouraging greater use of electric and hybrid vehicles for business travel where practical.
  • Further reducing single-occupancy business journeys through improved deployment planning.
  • Continuing the digitisation of learner communications, training materials and internal administration.
  • Increasing the use of energy-efficient lighting and equipment shutdown routines where facilities are under our control.
  • Further reducing paper, stationery and single-use consumables.
  • Delivering annual staff awareness initiatives focused on carbon reduction and sustainable working practices.
  • Reviewing procurement processes to prioritise lower-carbon suppliers, minimise packaging and promote sustainable purchasing decisions.
