Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Programmes

Supporting over 1,000 individuals a year to overcome barriers to employment, improve wellbeing and move into sustainable work through DWP-funded programmes delivered by specialist teams across the UK.

At Optima, we have extensive experience delivering Department for Work and Pensions funded programmes that help individuals at different stages of their employment journey progress towards lasting, positive change.

Our specialist team includes employability coaches, wellbeing practitioners, counsellors, trainers and keyworkers, people who bring both professional expertise and genuine commitment to the individuals they work with. We are not a generic training provider. We are an organisation that understands the connection between wellbeing and employment, and that builds its programmes around that understanding.

A Whole-Person Approach

Getting someone into work is rarely just about writing a CV. For many of the individuals we support, the barriers are deeper mental health challenges, long-term unemployment, low confidence, social isolation, financial pressure, health conditions or skills gaps that have built up over time. Addressing those barriers requires more than job search support.

Our integrated approach combines employability coaching with wellbeing interventions, counselling and practical skills development, so that participants receive support that addresses the whole person not just the employment outcome on a spreadsheet.

Depending on what each individual needs, that support can include one-to-one employability coaching, career planning and goal setting, CV development and job search support, interview preparation, confidence and motivation building, mental health and wellbeing support, counselling and therapeutic interventions, skills development and training, employer engagement and job brokerage, in-work support to sustain employment, and signposting to specialist services and community support.

Who We Support

Our DWP programmes support people across a wide range of circumstances and starting points. We work with economically inactive individuals and long-term unemployed adults, people experiencing mental health challenges or living with health conditions and disabilities, young people entering the labour market, parents and carers returning to work, people seeking to improve their skills and qualifications, and individuals at risk of social exclusion.

Whatever the starting point, every participant receives a personalised action plan that reflects their goals, their circumstances and where they want to get to, not a one-size-fits-all programme designed to move numbers through a system.

Delivering Alongside the Right Partners

Optima does not operate in isolation. Our DWP delivery works alongside and in close partnership with local authorities, Integrated Care Systems, NHS partners, further education providers, community organisations, employers and business networks. That breadth of partnership means participants benefit from coordinated support — and commissioners benefit from a delivery partner that understands how to operate within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

What Success Looks Like

We measure success beyond the moment someone secures employment. Sustainable outcomes improved wellbeing, increased confidence, stronger skills, and the ability to maintain progress over time are what we are working towards on every programme we deliver.

Our programmes are designed to improve mental health and wellbeing, increase confidence and resilience, develop employability skills, reduce the barriers that have been preventing participation, and support progression into education, training and employment that lasts.

Last year alone, Optima supported over 1,000 individuals through DWP-funded provision helping them build confidence, move into employment, improve their wellbeing and take meaningful steps towards a more stable future.
