Train to up your Game
It is widely recognised that People are our best asset, so critical then that we develop and nurture our best assets by providing adequate training and development to ensure staff can operate at their optimum capability. It is important for organisations to offer professional training to their staff to maximise performance, foster motivation, increase engagement, and ultimately drive business growth. “74% of small businesses that provide training reported increased revenue within 18 months”.
There are many myths surrounding professional training such as the belief that only large-scale organisations have access to training, professional development is not a priority and a risk of staff leaving after they have received training. “94% of employees say they would stay with a company longer if their employer invested in their learning”.
2020 saw businesses face the unprecedented challenge of COVID-19, which lead to many staff being placed on furlough and working from home. The result was professional training being put on the back burner. Many organisations will be re-examining their plans for 2021 and should be investing in the professional training and development of their staff. “51% of employers believe a main benefit of improving staff qualifications and skills is increased staff commitment and retention”.
Investing in professional training will also increase staff job satisfaction and ensure quality and consistency. Ongoing training allows organisations to address weaknesses, reduce faults, waste, customer complaints, reduce staff turnover and absenteeism. Professional training should be an integral part of employee development so that organisations and employees alike can thrive and grow.
2021 looks uncertain, but what we know for sure is that investing in the training and development of staff boosts job satisfaction and commitment and will pay dividends for years to come.
