The Partnership
Optima is an appointed supply partner to a national UK charity and social enterprise with an established track record of supporting people facing disadvantage including those with disabilities, health conditions or significant barriers to employment to achieve greater independence through employment, education and community support services.
Within this wider partnership, Optima has been appointed to deliver a dedicated Bereavement and Loss Remote One-to-One Service, sitting within an established community mental health and wellbeing framework that has been operating across Kent and Medway for over three years. The service has been delivered through successive specialist providers, and Optima has been appointed as the delivery partner for the current contract period.

2025 Contract duration: 2 years, running to March 2028
Delivery geography: Kent and Medway
Delivery model: Remote, one-to-one
Minimum reach: 115 individuals supported across the contract period
Eligibility: Adults aged 17 and over
Who the Service Supports
This service is for adults aged 17 and over who are experiencing bereavement following a death, or significant loss linked to major life events. Loss in this context includes the loss of employment, a home, a relationship, health, identity, a role or independence not only bereavement through death.
The service is designed for individuals who are willing to engage in a time-limited, structured intervention and who are not in crisis. It is not a crisis service, and appropriate referral criteria are applied to ensure participants receive the right level of support for their needs.
What We Deliver
Optima’s professionally trained counselling team delivers structured remote one-to-one sessions providing:
- Personalised emotional support to help individuals understand and manage the impact of their bereavement or loss
- Practical coping strategies tailored to the individual’s circumstances and stage of grief
- Structured, time-limited sessions designed to improve mental wellbeing and build resilience
- A safe, confidential and professionally boundaried space for individuals to process complex emotions at their own pace
- Signposting and onward referral where additional or specialist support is identified as necessary
Scale and Reach
This contract will support a minimum of 115 individuals across the two-year delivery period. The service operates within a wider community mental health infrastructure serving residents across Kent and Medway, with referrals coming through the prime contractor’s established community pathways.
Why We Were Appointed
The prime contractor sought a delivery partner with qualified counselling capability, experience of delivering sensitive one-to-one support in a remote environment, and the clinical governance, safeguarding and reporting infrastructure required to operate within a complex community health framework. Optima’s counselling team, clinical oversight structures and experience of delivering bereavement and mental health support in comparable commissioned contexts made us an appropriate appointment for this specialist service.
