Training Isn’t a Cost. It’s What Protects Everything Else.

The question isn’t whether you can afford to invest in training. It’s whether you can afford not to.

Most organisations know training matters. What holds them back is not conviction it’s uncertainty. Uncertainty about whether it will stick, whether it will translate into real change, whether the return will justify the investment.

At Optima, we have been delivering training and development programmes for over two decades  across commercial organisations and through government-funded and commissioned programmes that have reached thousands of people across the UK. Our training division brings together in excess of 20 qualified specialists, many of whom have come from industry themselves, spanning the full range from HR and employment law through to lean manufacturing, operational excellence, digital and AI adoption, neurodiversity, mental health and leadership.

We deliver in-house, online, face-to-face and through funded programmes. We work with private sector organisations paying commercially and with individuals and businesses accessing training through government-backed programmes at no direct cost.

Whatever route brings you here, the outcome is the same: training that creates measurable change, not just a day out of the office.

What Happens When You Don’t Invest in Training

An under-trained manager does not just underperform. They create ER cases, drive absence, lose good people and make decisions that cost significantly more to unpick than a training programme would have cost to run. A workforce that hasn’t been developed for the challenges it faces digital change, neurodiversity, pressure, compliance doesn’t stay still. It drifts. And drift is expensive.

The average cost of losing a mid-level operational employee in UK manufacturing is estimated at between £13,500 and £36,000 when you factor in recruitment, management time, productivity loss and the new hire performance gap. For a business with meaningful turnover, the cumulative cost of under-investment in people dwarfs the cost of addressing it.

Training is not a nice to have. It is what protects performance, reduces risk and keeps the people you have invested in from walking out of the door.

A Training Division Built on Real Experience

Our specialists are not generalists with a slide deck. They bring deep expertise in defined disciplines and many of them have worked in the industries and roles they now train people in. That firsthand knowledge of what it actually feels like to manage a team under pressure, to navigate an employment law situation without clear guidance, or to lead a workforce through change is what makes the difference between training that sounds right in a room and training that changes what happens on Monday morning.

As part of Optima one of the East Midlands’ most established recruitment businesses — we know the organisations we train from the inside. We have placed people in them. We understand the cultures, the pressures and the gaps that don’t always make it into a training needs analysis.

Two Ways to Access Optima Training

Depending on your organisation and your situation, there are two routes into our training provision. Both lead to the same quality of delivery. Both are shaped around real outcomes rather than generic programmes.

Commercial Training

For private sector organisations commissioning training directly. Leadership and management, operational excellence, employment law and compliance, DISC profiling, neurodiversity, mental health, pressure management, lean manufacturing, digital and AI adoption and more. Delivered 1:1, in groups or as longer development programmes. Priced commercially and scoped around your specific needs.

Government Funded and Supported Programmes

Optima has an established track record of delivering training through government contracts, commissioned programmes and publicly funded initiatives. If you or your organisation may be eligible for funded training whether through a regional programme, a health and wellbeing initiative or a government-backed scheme. This is where to start.
